Security Support Engineer
Can you handle the truth?
Security Support Engineer's provide information, communications and responsive and reliable resolutions to the most critical and highest impact security related problems facing Microsoft's personal, professional and corporate customers using Microsoft software products. As part of the PSS Security Incident Response team you will proactively and reactively communicate on, identify, troubleshoot and resolve security threats and attacks involving Microsoft products.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Represent Microsoft on security support issues and communicate with internal and external customers via a variety of mediums to identify solutions for technically complex problems and security threats in Microsoft products.
- Solve problems with varying degrees of complexity with both broad product knowledge and in-depth security knowledge. Often, these problems will not only be technically complex, but also politically **ged situations requiring excellent customer skills. Efficiently manage the relationship with these customers and thoroughly documenting their cases.
- Support security related products and issues such as Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server, Microsoft Forefront Antigen, Microsoft Forefront Security Client, Microsoft Security Baseline Analyzer, Rights Management Service, Software ** Services, Virus Infections and System Compromises.
- Manage security, confidentiality and privacy of sensitive company and customer data
- Handle CritSit cases in technically challenging and politically hot situations.
- Available to participate in 24x7, on call support, and travel to a customer's site under short notice and work remotely. (preferred)
- Collaborate on cross-team and cross-product technical issues with resources ** other groups to resolve customer issues. Collaborate Tech Leads and CPR engineers effectively. Report software bugs and customer suggestions.
- Use trace analysis, source code, and other sophisticated debugging tools to analyze problems and develop solutions to meet customer needs; may involve writing code.
- Lead and participate in triage meetings to share knowledge and develop customer solutions. Share best practices with team members. Act as technical resource for broad and complex issues. Develop and deliver "in depth" technical training to engineers.
- Write complex technical knowledgebase articles, virus bulletins, white papers, FAQ's, call scripts and sample programs.
- Maintain strong working knowledge of pre-release products and take ownership for product improvement in key product areas.
Required Skills/Knowledge

- Understanding of security vulnerabilities, exploits, compromises and related malware as these relate to Windows and Microsoft products.
Experience
- Five or more years experience in systems development, security and network operations, software support or I.T. consulting. (required)
- Two or more years experience securing Windows systems and Microsoft products in both home user and enterprise configurations. (required)
- Four or more years industry experience with Microsoft products (required)
- Strong knowledge of current Windows products including Microsoft® Windows 2003 Server, Microsoft XP, Windows 2000 Server/Professional (required)
- Two or more years experience identifying and responding to hacking incidents, large and small scale virus infections and analyzing systems for symptoms of compromise. (preferred)
- Experience with and/or experience supporting Microsoft Security Baseline Analyzer and Software ** Services (preferred)
Strong knowledge of UNIX or other operating systems (preferred).
Education
- MCSE-2000, MCSE 2003, or MCSD (required)
- B.S. degree in C.S. or E.E. or equivalent (preferred)
- CISSP, CISM, CCNP or CCIE (preferred) |
